Where the hell do you start with this race, cos it didnít just happen,

6 weeks ago I had a tumble on the run and bashed my knee up and thought I put my back out (sciatica), the knee healed Ok ish, but, no matter what stretching I did for the back nothing would touch the pain going down my leg into my heel.

I found out about two weeks before the race that I was Piriformis syndrome, so started a different stretching regime and using a golf ball in the butt muscle, It eased with only two days to go.

Race Day

I had made the decision to have an easy swim and be more relaxed for the bike, Dave M and Gom in my lane were a pleasure to swim with, they kept out my way and I had an easy time of it, no one was more surprised than me when I got the two to go board that they said I was in the lead. So, out of the water in 2:17, ( you girl have got to learn to swim Very Happy ) 3 mins to transition and off on the bike, (claim to fame, Race reader for just under 3 hrs this year) it pi$$ed down, seven and a half hours of light and HEAVY rain, started to see others coming on to the course, managed to stay warm this year.
Night fall
The Nite Flux lights that I had were awesome, no problem seeing the road ahead, the some where around mid night I heard Dicky Ginn say some thing about youths and a hose pipe as I left the feed station, came down the long hill and as I passed Roundabout Garage something stepped out of the shadows and I felt a strong jet of water hit me in the face, hit some gravel on the drive way and came off felt a couple of blows on my back, not sure if it was fist or boot, grabbed the hose and turned it on the chavs to keep them off me, managed to get on the bike and away, Enduroman Steve caught up with me in his car on the return leg and told me that the police had been called.

It kinda went down hill from there, lost my confidence and just turned the pedals over, canít tell you how many times I wanted to quit over the next few hours, just kept telling my self one more lap, plus Pink Sally had the cattle prod ready.

Into the run

Struggled for the first 4 or 5 laps till TC caught me and gave me THE SECRET, then it was just a case of plugging away at it, the last 9 laps were very hazy, Sally ran some with me ,and I know both Slackoís got me round a few ( I love you Rach) , but, that last reversed lap I did with Enduroman Steve, very emotional, that finish line never looked so good.

High points

KKís smile every time I saw her, TC and Dave M keeping me going, the friendships Iíve made, watching these guys hammer themselves with a smile/grimace on their face, the banter from the pirates/air cadets/ Mr Trev on the mike. THE WHOLE BLOODY EXPIERENCE.

Low points

Getting a kicking from some chavs, thatís all. Although I am leaving it to the police to prosecute them, I have forgiven them ( I refuse to carry that crap around ).

See you all at the Triple.

Outstanding... Ive just endured my second IM and cant imagine going double the distance (or indeed triple).

I work with a guy who did the double last year and doing the triple next & it takes a different level of mental fortitude I think - espcially given your chav incident.

Large hat off. Awesome.

Worship
Excellent work, Revd G! After seeing you at TBW last year, I'm really pleased to see that you've got this one beaten.

What kind of mentality encourages these ignorant imbeciles to think it's clever to assault athletes in this way? Shame you couldn't shove your golf ball and their hose pipe up their ar$es or take Pink Sally's cattle prod to them.

It was a pleasure seeing you finish. Bizarre innit? Some of the best convo's I've had during those difficult laps! You were fabulous, for not giving in - oh! and for farting so much! xx Worship

Great report. We heard about the chavs and the kicking you got at London from Slacker. Unbelievable!

Congrats.

RevG - fantastic report.
Must say that there was nobody I wanted to finish more than you - after last year and then after the chav incident.

You just kept on going and Pink Sally was so supportive and wanted it so much for you too.
Well done on sticking it out - seeing your face at that final run turn was a picture.

Well done - feel the afterglow.
