Andy, a good rule of thumb for ironman nutrition is: Eat as much as you can, whenever you can, but know that it won't be enough. Smile

hehe, thats the basic jist of what they're saying. I've read 5 (or so) race reports from Edinburgh Tri and they've all said they run out of energy half way through the run and struggled really badly. There's much being sick too. Sick

The other point to note about France is that the lake isn't cold and it's decided the previous night as to whether wet suits are allowed or not. So, you'd have to be able to swim the distance without, just in case! Embarassed

The normally decide that wetties will be optional if water temp is high.
That happened in IM OZ last year - I wore mine (for the buoyancy)

OK OK OK OK, stop going on you lot! Laughing

Right, by way of discussion here are my thoughts. Potentially, I'm in. The course looks good, has the right amount of glitz (Hawaii slots Rolling Eyes )etc. But I have some problems:

The temperature during the race. I know GB gets hot but there's less chance of the race falling on that one hot weekend we call summer if I did Sherborne full IM. Racing in the hot is even harder, as if it's not going to be hard enough.

It's a long way away. I've never travelled outside GB and only left England twice to visit family in Wales. So travelling bothers me. That doesn't mean I won't do it, itís just a new thing to take on. Got time to fix that this year though (hope the Mrs doesn't read this, she'll have something booked before I've finished typing). Its 450 miles to drive, not looked into flights, holiday yet. Have to get into a travel agent without raising the suspicion of the Mrs!!!!!!!

It's two months earlier than Sherborne. I was planning a huge build up with plenty of prep and base training. By cutting two months out of my schedule I'll have to cut back on that base. As a novice, that's not a good thing. Still leaves me loads of time but still a concern.

Strange how I have no concerns about the race itself! Shocked

Ok andy
But you only live once Very Happy

I ahve the same resavations as you and i have also never travelled out side the UK (england to race)

and if a few of us go we can drive and share the load.

Heat I think most IM race's will suffer from the heat this time of year.

Oh did i mention you only live once. Laughing
