Does anyone have any more info about this event other than what is listed here:

http://www.britishtriathlon.org/events/detail_new1.php?id=411

I might be in the area at that time of year and am on the lookout for a autumn half IM. Does anyone know what distances are involved? I'm assuming there will be some sand-based running given the title.

I've emailed the organiser, but not heard anything back yet.

Has this been run before? Any feedback?

Thanks for that, JR. It doesn't really give any more details about the event, but it does give me another email address to try.

I'll report back if I find out any more.

Hi Guys, sorry for the slow reply and thanks Ben for the nudge.

Yep this is happening, the location is going to be Newborough Beach and Forest which is another gorgeous location, we are just waiting to complete some formalities with the Forestry Commission before launching the website and opening the entries. We're putting plenty of pressure on them so hope to have it up and running asap.

Apologies again for the delay, but rest assured it will be a cracking event to comprise the following:

Sea Swim - 750m
Road Ride - 50km approx
Trail run (mostly forest tracks and single track trails) - 10k approx

Cheers Guys, i'll add a post here as soon as entries are open.

Tim.

The Anglesey Sandman website and registration has now gone live see

www.angleseysandman.com

Just been out on the course in the sunshine - looks great but don't just take my word for it...

The size of the event has changed slightly the final version being

Swim - 1000m (optional 400m avaialable)
Cycle - 60 km
Run - 10km

See maps of routes on "Route Info" on the web page. Don't forget you can use either street maps or satellite (click on Map Options)

Let me know what you think....

Enjoy!

I ran around the run route of the sandman yesterday in lovely warm sunshine, so i thought i'd post a quick description...

The route is lovely, a mix of forest trails, sandy single track and beach running at the end. It undulates all the way around, though most of it is fast running. There is a nasty 'sand dune sting in the tail' in the final kilometer, but it doesn't go on for too long so nothing to worry about.

The views from Llanddwyn beach are breathtaking, this is where the whole event is based (start, finish and transition are here). The whole of the snowdon massif rises out from the sea in front of you, it's worth a visit just for this. Fingers crossed that the weather in September is as kind as it has been this week!

Website is up now and entries are open. Feel free to get in touch if you need any more info.

Cheers,

Tim.

Following feedback from Tim's run we've amended the trail route slightly in the North West corner to keep feet dry at high tide! To view go to -

Looks like North Wales has an exciting September 2011 ........

The Brutal on the 17th Sept in Llanberis, then 20 mins away is the Anglesey Sandman on the 18th Sept. If your not thinking of doing the Brutal possibly a good opportunity to watch/support the Brutal and compete on Anglesey the following day.

The following weekend is the Common Wealth cross country in Newborough Forest virtually on the same course as the Anglesey Sandman trail run. This along with the first festival of running, looks like Newborough is fast becoming the sporting events capital for Anglesey!

If you fancy some open water swim practice with support - worth checking out the home page at www.snowdoniaslateman.com Just scroll down home page....

I know it's a lake rather than the sea but it all helps....
