Got a really wuss question to ask,

With the sea swim, am i gonna get stung by jelly fish? I suppose another question would be how different is swimming in the sea than open water lakes?

Cheers

Ian

Ive swam a couple of HIM sea swims abroad and they have been mill ponds. Really want to do this race. But being a poor swimmer. The thought of getting in a choppy sea scares me to death. How bad does it get round there and if i couldnt finish the swim. Could i still have a bike and run ? Ive never had a Dnf. But have always picked my times to put my toe in the sea

Think i read somewhere that the swim is parallel to the beach 50m out. Ive never swum in the sea before and only been open water swimming twice. Am going to enter tonight and reckon (hoping) that once i'm in the water and swimming that everything will work out ok.

Dreading the run myself, maybe that whats keeping my mind off the swim Wink

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newborough,_Anglesey

the beach is pretty shallow so you should be ok 50m out, its in a bay but the wind is forecast to blow onshore so could be choppy - just do breastsroke like i had to in bala yesterday, should be a good event - not many jellyfish in the sea at the moment so we should be ok with that too

I can't see the sea being much worse than Bala was yesterday tbh....

I've read somewhere it is 50m out parallel to the shore.

Is the bike a road bike? Something below the main info talks about no road bikes but I take it that refers to the kids races?

Yeah i took it that the kids bike route was off road but the main tri was road going out from the car park onto public roads.

All payed up and entered last night. Am only going to be getting there for after 10am, does anyone reckon this will be a problem? i know the road to the forest car gets closed at 11am or something.

bike route is on road, the car park where transition is very rough ground you wont be cycling over this but it will be hard work on bare feet, the toll road which gets closed is good tarmac with speed bumps all the way up/down it and a reasonable climb/decent so these will need to be slowed for.

http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/28879598/

I reckon the car park/transition is on the right on satalite view of the map so would say left to right.

yup the car park is at the end where the number 1 is on that link, the swim will be a beach start at the lighthouse end (so a 1k walk to warm up) and back to the transition in the car park, my gf went on the run with the organisers tonight and they said if it is rough they will offer a 400m swim for the weaker swimmers

I'm not sure how that would work - how can they offer a 400m swim to weaker swimmers? Surely they would have to make the swim shorter for everyone?
