Core work seems to be going well although it's hard to tell really. My Our gym fitness coaches won’t talk to you about anything unless you pay them money for loads of coached sessions. They wouldn’t even tell me what machine might help with swimming muscles!

or go to a gym wher the actuly teach eg you loca councle gim if they havent contacted it out

If you have ever tried a group of 15 or a lot of reps, you recognize it is often troublesome. If you are unaccustomed to coaching during this zone, you will find your muscles fatigue quickly, and 40 pounds starts to feel a lot of like a hundred by the ultimate rep.I think you should start with 12 reps then you should increase it day by day to build up your muscles.
