Happy Crimbo TTers
I've finally had a bash at updating the IM list, see Page 1 as usual.
I've left in the defunct 2014 races even if it's just so you know they are dead.
Any input on owt I've missed or as things need updating, please post or PM me.

Crikey, theres no pleasing some folk
I might do.
2014 HalfIMs list is here btw, as a guide to investigate for 2015
http://www.tritalk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?p=1556068#1556068
I do this list not just as a 'To Do' List or my one useful contribution to TT, but mainly to promote some of the small independent events. The self interest being to help keep them alive, otherwise I can't feed my addiction
The unending stream of newbies signing up for WTC M-Dot Bolton and Tenby official IronMans is testament to the fact that folks need educating that this isn't the only IronMan option on offer, (great but obviously pricey the MDot events are).
So, after the unbelievable number of LD events offered in 2014, there have been some casualties, as expected:
1. Isle of Man TT Iron Tri only ran for the inaugural 2013 edition http://tttri.com/
Shame, as it was the full M-Dot production experience. The only missing ingredient was sufficient competitors.
2. HorseMan Extreme by Endurance Life only ran for the inaugural 2012 edition and has not made it back in 13 or 14, however this has been spiritually superceded by the new FreakMan for 2015 which is also at Dartmoor
3. Kielder Tri was first offered for 2014 but never ran due to lack of numbers. This was simply because it clashed with Yorkshire TdF, so let's hope it gets off the ground in 2015, but shame it's date clashes with FreakMan as both events look similarly ace
4. Rat Race City to Summit extreme IM is taking a year out, and is promised back for 2016. Lack of initial entries take up compared to previous years and a desire to improve the event being the reasons cited. Which is fair enough.
5. JurassicMan Extreme IM has only survived for 2013 and 14. Very sad as the point to point concept using Devon and Dorset along the Jurassic Coast was superb, and the logistics were so easy, as you could even turn up solo on your bike without a car, with just a pop up tent and race kit (like chopsy did) and all the logistics of getting you and your kit from A to B and back were taken care for you. And all for the price of a regular non MDot IM, incl free camping! No support crew required, nor travelling to the farthest ends of the universe to get there, so anyone even thinking of thinking of doing NorseMan, CeltMan ar SwissMan should have had a cheap play here first to gain experience. And the scenery and terrain was brilliant. But apparently not glamorous?? enough cf NW Scotland or Norway and numbers weren't quite viable. Go figure!! Please lobby Claire at Brutal Events for it's return in 2016!
6. The inaugural 2014 Beast of Cornwall from Newquay never got sufficient numbers to run, despite there being a halfIM event to support it on the same day, like at Challenge Weymouth etc
7. The Big Woody has had a long distinguished history as the 2nd oldest LD tri event in the UK, having been around since 2007, the year after The Longest Day folded, and 2 years after IMUK first went full iron distance at Sherborne. But 2014 was the last year of the LD Big Woody option due to dwindling numbers, so there is just the Little Woody aka simply 'The Woody' halfIM dist event remaining. We've lost the best inland iron sw1m course unfortunately. Bike and run were great too. Maybe Trev will take pity on us and bring it back for a laff after a wee rest?
8. Cleveland 'Double' Steelman (i.e. 2x the normal halfIM dist Steelman event) was always a tenth anniversary one off in 2013 and Sandra called in too many marshalling favours to do it again straight away, but it will hopefully return one year as it was much enjoyed by all, and at a very inclusive price!
9. Racing Quests (ex-UltraMan) new point to point Ultra Challenge Wales
event proposed in N.Wales for 2015 appears dead before the year has even started. It was a 4.8km point to point swim, 212km road bike, 52km road and trail run, within a 24 hour cut off!
10. But the UltaManUK aka UMUK continues.
(nb. Simon Smith has spun off a new venture in the same format in Spain - see http://www.goultraevents.com/.)
Both events are like a sw1m heavy Double Ironman over 3 separate days. 10km OW sw1m, 420km bike, 52.4 mile double marathon run.)
11. Both Bath and Chichester iron weekender optiuons haven't survived, just leaves Tenby Long Course Weekend.
12. I know very little about a mooted ShadowMan event in Republic of Ireland at Athlone in 2014, and it certainly isn't listed in 2015.
Did it run at all?
http://triathlone.com/new-website-launched/
and of those still hopefully just tba
13. Anglian at Cromer. This is a great event, with 'that' current & tide assisted super fast point to point sea sw1m along the cliffs to Cromer pier. I'm sure this will still run. Oh, and despite being in Norfolk, it's not flat!
14. Ardgartan Iron at Loch Long, just on the West side of Loch Lomond, quite easy to get to actually, 45 mins from the top of Glasgow. Finishers of this early season stunning cult event have been a very exclusive club for the last two years, and it's the flagship event for NRG Events. I'd love to do this fiendish one again, specially as I'm reigning champ .
15. IreMan at Bangor, N.Ireland - has also been a low numbers niche event and fair play I hope it survives and thrives
16. PowerMan LD Duathlon at Sherborne - 2015 date is still tba. Or anyone know if this is looking unlikely?
Will the newbies keep thriving?
17. Bastion at Hever Castle was new for 2014. It was extremely well organised with MDot levels of support, more so given it was the inaugural event. Flagship event for the v successful Castle Triathlon Series organisers. Bluntly, there is now a 5th top line IM event to choose from in the UK, to complement Bolton, Tenby, Outlaw and Challenge Weymouth. Recommended. Be one of the first! Onsite camping and a great weather proof all day and post race party vibe too.
18. ArranMan - only foul weather can upset this one, but everyone should expect the possibility of that anyway. I can see this one thriving as Arran has a magic. Especially as its only £60 quid! plus ferry fee etc.
19. WasdaleX - is sufficiently tamer mile per mile than the amazing end of season Half that it is actually doable by many. It has already taken off and captured the interest and imagination. Chapeau. Gonna be epic. Again, subject to the weather gods on any given year.
20. ForestMan - Richard may have been slightly disappointed there were only 110 golden sw1m caps gleaming at the start of 2014 event, but the reality is that that's at the higher end of any of the non-Mdot field sizes now, and it made for a more than entertainingly competitive field. Not called Best IM in UK by accident its a must do event. Now the second longest on the calendar, 2015 will be the 8th running of many to come. Backed up with a ~2/3 distance IM on the same day, the BoskMan, ideal prep before a full IM event later in the summer.
21. The Brutal Extreme - The Half has really taken off, and the Full is following suit. How can an event with a final run section up n down Snowdon not be a success! As a buddy support runner for this section is not required this year, then it should become even more doable for more intrepid folks. It's already a classic bucket list event on the calendar.
22. CotsWolds 226. Good sized field for the first event, and carrying a very positive reputation from the 113 events. As its unusual for the UK in being a flat IM, it will always have a USP, and success is guaranteed.
23. Ultimate Tri also has a sound existing fanbase from the very friendly UK Triathlon marshalls and organisers, and rarely is flat too. In its third year its developing a heritage already and should become an established fixture, backed up with a feeder HalfIM on the same day.
24. The new Owler caught me out , it was tougher than I expected on the scenic bike. Loved it. Top marks for friendly organisation and an entertaining genius run course almost entirely traffic free despite being urban, I'm confident TriSpirit will keep this all day party running, again backed up with a HalfIM on the same day.
25. Midnight Man was full up this year, congrats to John on that. It's thriving, and has a great overnight niche and unique vibe.
26. The Immortal as a full distance is not openly advertised yet but its obviously aspired to, so lets hope we see it 2016 it not this year. Anyone know anything if it'll happen?
27. IsoMan is a totally new concept, let the experiment begin! Be interesting to see how equally the split times will spread out, I suspect the bike is a tad short even so, but that I think, is the point!
28. ChallengeUK - I'm impressed there were over 500 entrants for the full iron at Weymouth. Shame the normally sheltered sea sw1m was adversely affected by the very unusual East winds making it a shortened v choppy affair. If people can see beyond that freak occurrence then all should be well.
29. The Pig Long Distance Duathlon. As usual Brutal events make you run up n down a mountain, this time at the start, there is no Duathlon event remotely like it in the world, so fair play, lets hope there are enough adventurous types to sustain it in its second year
nb. The bike IS on the road not MTB!

Good work as usual TC
Our Cotswodl226 is going to be July 12th 2015 to try and get a longer day in terms of light (and hopefully avoid a repeat of this years hurricane Bertha)
We're up to around 110 entries so far, which is about the same as this time last year, so I suspect we'll have a starting field of around 200
Be great to have you and your demin shorts racing with us

TC thanks for this brilliant resource once again. Was a long recovery from bike accident last summer and was waiting to be sure was up to it before planning events and the choice keeps growing. I can't manage an event a week like you. Have strong loyalty to Forestman as brilliant event and like the people, so is probably that and one other. Intrigued by Isoman and good value, but swim distance is going to put off some TC! But might give Brutal full a go as recce for possibly doing double next year.

It's Back
The 'IsWhatItIs' distances Ironman
including the best Long Distance / 'IronMan' swimble known to man in the 70m deep but aquamarine clear waters of the National Dive Centre
- imagine your swimming in the Grand Canyon
(even if Vince has c0cked it up for 2 years in a row and it's been long FFS much to chopsy's delight )
I'm delighted to announce The Return of The Big Woody as there a long dist tri sized hole in the calendar that weekend
http://www.wildboarevents.co.uk/bigwoody.html
for it's ninth consecutive year. The second oldest LD/ironman event in the UK after IMUK the Big Woody was born in 2007 as the spiritual successor to the legendary The Longest Day ironman (RIP 2006), which for many years was the only ironman-distance event in the UK, hard to believe now I know when there's 20 odd.
Sat Aug29 BH Weekend at Chepstow/Lydney, Gloucs
Free camping at T2 with a forest ful of owls and a short bus transfer to T1 (cheers HLid ) included. (Or the wigwam's at the Chepstow NDAC national dive centre are a giggle, and fully heated and powered)
For those who like to get out of breath there's also
The Little Woody SWIM - 1.2 MILES BIKE - 56 MILES RUN - 11 MILES
and The Whittle Woody SWIM - 950m BIKE - 30 MILES RUN 8 - MILES
on the same day, so fun for every one really
Full ironman bragging rights apply to the Big Un as only 2 or 3 can crack this one in under ten hours. (and coz I say so!)
Dont be fooled by the 'only' 100 miles bike as its 2 laps of the rather fantastic but rather lumpy Forest of Dean. I hope the bike route is the same as last year with English Bitchnors big little brother as it was fab, and took us into the deep dark interior of the Forest for the first time.
And 'that run' is all gradually up then back down. Six times. 'Such Fun'. so 22 is plenty enough!
All this for a hundred squid to the first 20 lucky entrants. I think Trev has gone mad.
TTers get to find out first. enter first and only then tell your mates
don't believe me - checkout the previous years fab feedback threads:
