Meredith Kessler, the winner of IM NZ took her medal and gave it to someone who missed the final cutoff by 1 minute.

How would you feel, and would you take the medal?

I think it's lovely

I understand the need for the cut off, but I love these acts of kindness

I gave my finishers medal and 'top 100' hat to a woman who had missed the bike cut off at Wimbleball by a few minutes and was in tears over it. Big softie Smile

I'd feel patronised. I wouldn't take it and suggest she gave it to someone who GAF - I'd be very grumpy after 17 hours Laughing

If it'd been in full sponsors kit or something I'd be cynical BUT she seems to be stood there is fairly horrible rain cheering people on. I'm not sure if they always do that BUT, at the risk of being shown to be naive (again)...

Its the sort of collective spirit that makes the triathlon scene so good to be involved in. The two involved have both works hard in different ways.

I'd have taken the medal, put it somewhere prominent and used it as motivation to beat the cut off next time. But then, I've never entered an IM so what do I know!

I'd probably take it - it'd be impolite not to.

I always stay til the end of an Ironman if I can - and the winners are almost always there too. I think people miss out by just finishing and buggering off. Its great to see people achieving their goals at the end of a long day.

A minute or two over 17 hours ? I'm not bothered.

whilst i sort of appreciate the gesture, if i had missed the cut off then there would be no way i'd take anything like that off somebody. i can't really see the point of taking it, it wouldnt make me lany less gutted.

just put it down as a bad day and earn a medal the proper way.

I expect they took the medal, then the following week got the Mdot tattoo on their ankle.

Not sure I'd have gone down the carpet if I'd missed the cut-off, would have found a way of completing the distance by carrying on the previous non-finishline route instead.
