I'm surprised it's been allowed to go on for so long....

...or, more importantly, how complicit are all the other nations including our own FA for not doing what the yanks have done?

If only FIFA was as pure, forward thinking and as caring as the UCI, eh?

Those of us with a long memory still remember the IOC and money for votes in the Olympic bidding processes in fact it really feels like deja vue

I read today that over a thousand people have died building the stadiums in Qatar - I don't gave a reliable source for that - if this is the case, it's time to prosecute all those in the system...

Don't believe everything you read - have you been reading the Guardian again ? Its complete nonsense.

Daily Mail or Guardian?

So how are you going to prosecute someone in Qatar ?

PS Its complete b*llocks. Most of the stadiums are still on paper, only one has started construction properly.

That said, Qatar is undoubtedly the worst place for construction related deaths, but most if not all of the deaths are entirely unrelated to the World Cup. Unfortunately, the Guardian has ben mounting a campaign almost entirely based upon lies and half truths which when pointed out, does real harm to any sensible campaign for sorting out the problem.

FWIW, its not Qatari companies that are the problem and its not the Brits although the Guardian would have you believe that. Its mostly the companies from certain countries which have the problem and don't really care about anyone else.

Have a look at this Washington Post article.

I think that the image in the article is particularly powerful.

you've just made the point though...don't award the world cup or any contract to a state that has little or no time for human rights

i think that figure comes from a finding in a 2014 ituc report (on migrant labour abuse in qatar) that 1200 workers had died since the world cup was awarded to qatar (in 2010), rather than during building works for the word cup (iyswim)
