Thinking of entering this one. Full iM distance event. Start is off a boat, a la Norseman @ 05:30. Bike inc. Semnoz + 4 other alpine cols in the Bauges massif. Stunning venue 1st Oct.

The swim & bike legs could be great, but I'm guessing the run will be dullsville.

Looks nice that, but will need to see the actual route. A half version would have been good.
Not sure what the water temp will be like in October though.

Come on Jeff - water will be warm - it holds temperature into autumn and is slow to warm up after winter.
I'm in if work allows.

Now that looks like the sort of race to temp me out of IM-distance retirement I've done quite a bit of cycling in that area and it really is beautiful. Semnos will be "fun" - if they go up the road that they used for the Tour then it's 13km at 10% There's over an hour of riding right there
The lake temperature should be fine. It's warm enough to swim without a wetsuit in mid September.
The run along the cycle path will be a bit dull, but after that bike course I'll be happy to plod around a flat run course. I'd definitely have no interest in running up another mountain
I don't think that I can fit it in this year, but it's definitely on the list for next year

I've ridden all those climbs, and swam a lot in lake annecy, this is going to be an awesome race!
The semnoz is hands down the hardest climb I have done in the Alps.

Really? Was it at the end of a particularly hard ride? I found the road a bit rough & narrow through the upper part of the woods, but the wind as I approached the hotel was the hardest part of the climb.

Doh, I've just realised it is the same weekend as IM Barcelona!
Rules it out for this year then.

Then you should try Arpettaz, Signal De Bisanne, Col Du Pre, Mont Du Chat, Col De Plan Bois.
Semnoz from Annecy is probably my favourite climb out there, but would never class it as "hard." long, yes.

Cheers ttowel, I've used your Annecy area experience to tick off climbs in the past & have now added Mont du Chat to the list should I holiday there again.

done all of those and the semnoz is still the one I wouldn't want to do again! All subjective though
