Looks like it is back as a 13/112/26 duathlon

Spotted this in the FAQ
Quote:
Time trial or TT bikes are BANNED from this event. As are Time trial or Tri bars fitted to a road bike. This is for safety reasons. The ‘head down’ riding style of these types of bikes and bars is not compatible with the traffic conditions experienced along the route.

Although there were some busy bits on the route, I didn't have a problem and thought my TT bike was ideal for the route. There was nothing twisty or technical and I spent most of my time on the tri bars.

Great news that it is back Thumbs Up
Mystifying about not allowing tribars. Someone in RatRace doesn't have a clue by the sounds of it. Like your gonna ride on the tribars when in heavy traffic Confused Hopefully they will see sense and relent rather than dig their heels in, when everyone points out how dumb this is.
Banning TT bikes will cost them a shedload of entries, way less fun.

That's a bit harsh TC. Whilst I disagree with the decision, it is not as if it is terrible decision. From race organisers point of view, if they decide they want to promote a safer style of riding then no problems with that.

It is also a good leveller as everybody competes on same sort of bike so those who cannot afford the bling of TT bikes get more of a chance.

I did the initial City to Summit in 2013 with the infamous 8 degree swim (I am assuming that is why they don't bother now with swim option) and I have to say that I actually found it to be a very well organised race and I did enjoy it.

Road bikes are recommended (just no tribars)

They have moved it to July so the water would be a wee tad warmer, I reckon it is now a du because of the third Forth bridge construction and the difficulty of getting the car park area in South Queensferry when it isn't reserved for the cruise ships.

if you are down on drop bars you are looking down towards the ground as with tri bars?

its the RO choice and 100% accept it , but if I was thinking of doing it I would now have changed my mind and raced elsewhere

I really like the look of this event but as I've only got a TT bike it's a no go. Hopefully they change their stance in the future.
