I hear you. I'm doing the Cotswold 226 as my first UK long distance. It's costing me 200 all-in, as I only live 30 min away. It's weird not having all the logistics associated with all my other continental Iron dist events.

I just wish we had germanic road surfaces over here, it would make 180km that much more pleasant!

That first section after crossing the river in Frankfurt has raised 'iron work' but you'd only miss it if you were riding in a pack!

Gosh it's that time of the year again - entering races in the Iron world for 2017! I've not even done my A race for 2016 yet.

Do you think the recent crash of the pound is putting people off? Well, certainly from this part of the world anyway? Just did an exchange rate for the cost of entering IMDE - 450 which is a lot of cash for a race.

I note that neither Germany nor Austria have sold out as of yet despite being open for entries for over a week? I remember last year Germany took a few weeks to sell out, but I wonder if they have reached saturation for Ironman with all the new events? I am toying with one or the other for next year, but the price is making even me wince a little, and I have an M dot tattoo!!

There's that many of them now and some even quicker courses that I don't they they will sell as quickly again, might be less Brits going as well due to the exchange rate.

Also think some people are going for events like X tri to grab a few more bragging rights, problem with them is that you need support which makes it more difficult for me as the Mrs can't drive!

I'm going to leave it until after Barcelona to decide what to do, if they sell out that isn't a huge problem, would try and enter Denmark or Sweden but both are a struggle to get off work.

Frankfurt was a good race though and I might go back one day.

Jeff

Any ideas on the best place to stay?

The Intercontinental is hugely expensive and the split transition is causing doubts.

Has anyone stayed near the airport....seems a happy medium or best to stay near the finish line?

Thanks.

if you have a look on booking.com it will give you an idea of places.

i stayed here last year (link at bottom, and booked again for this year): it's a 10 min walk to the main registration//finish/T2 and same again for the buses to T1 for bike racking and the start.

be aware if you go near the train station this is also the red-light area: might suit some people!
