There's a few showers this morning in Roth (apparently), that'll hopefully bring the temps down a bit.

They regulate the Canal water temperature using the locks; I think it's only 21.* at the moment anyway, and it's fairly deep.

In my experience of both living & racing in Germany and now observing, events there tend to have one extreme or the other weather wise Rolling Eyes

Thank you - I thought German motorways were supposed to be great, but there were lots of hold ups for me - hope your trip was fine.

Oh, they can be routinely awful for traffic jams. The only benefit is the Autobahn network is much bigger than the UK, so if you know in advance, you can avoid the nasty ones by listening to the radio...speaking German helps here Wink There are several ways to get to Bavaria from the UK/France direction.

ETA - on the way home, try to avoid Frankfurt (A3) & go via the A6 -Heilbronn-Mannheim-A61-Koblenz etc

This is just how it used to be for the Euro Ironman races until they doubled them in number in the last 6-7 years.

Kalmar & Copenhagen seem to sell-out fast, Austria & Barcelona quite quickly (all of them fast courses) and everything else you can leave for a few days/weeks/months, or until race week in some cases Smile

I thought that I should provide an update on disk brakes should anyone else have the same question. There was no problem with using a bike with disk brakes - I saw at least 4 or 5 and the checkers didn't blink at bike check-in.

As for the race - just great - a fantastic day. My times were very average, but I was never stressed about beating the cutoff and the atmosphere was fantastic.

Have signed up again for 2018.

To those who didn't get in. Whilst the slots via tour operators cost a premium, the split transition and lack of local accommodation to the venue means that (for once), a bit of support might make it worth the extra cost; especially if you're going alone or your partner had kids to look after.
