Anyone else interested in this?

http://www.xterraplanet.com/2016/07/2017-wales-announced/

Never done an off road tri but always fancied it. Now there is one 20 minutes from home - ideal.

Would need to be less sh1t on the MTB to do it justice though Very Happy

Hmmmm. May have to have a think about this one!

Not been to Llantwit Major before, what would the mtb course be like Grifter? Pretty straightforward i would imagine?

Like you, not totally familiar with the area as it's the wrong side of Cardiff for me. can't think of any serious hills but there are sand dunes around those parts!

the previous UK XTERRA which ran for 4 years in Surrey was on a private estate with no real hills to speak of. what made the bike challenging there was that a lot of it was twisty, technical singletrack that you needed great bike handling skills for and an ability to change gears and power rapidly. it was rated by many of the pros as one of the most difficult bike legs on the XTERRA circuit, a lot which are just hills with no great technical difficulty. the run was also tough as it was all off-road with trunks, bogs and streams to get over/through in parts.

am thinking of XTERRA Wales for next year - depends on how the calendar falls and having some details on the courses.

Would be interested in having a go, Tried off road duathlons so a tri should be OK. Cant see where the bike course would be, so interested in seeing that set out first.

Did 2 years in Surrey. Awesome fun. Great technical bike course. The second time I never worked so hard on the bike ever.

Why did it have to clash with the Dragon Ride though Sad

was that the muddy year? never seen so many bike DNFs as it was just too hard for many who'd not done a lot of MTBing over winter. I remember 2 fat bikes coming into transition with probably their weight of mud on the tyres!

Anyone else remember the original Xterra Wales back in 2006/7? Now that was a hard bike course. And a hard run course too!

Atlantic College is a bit past Llantwit Major and . There is a Coastal Ultra run by RunWalkCrawl that uses this stretch of Coastal path for its Coastal ultra and I can't see why they wouldn't use that for the run (enjoying some rocky beach run sections).

I wouldn't say that there are an awful lot of hills around there for the bike leg - but there are some short sharp ones like you'd expect near any coast line. I was trying to think where I'd put a bike leg in and can't ever remember it being suitable for a 'Cross race, but there are some nice grounds inside the Atlantic College complex that could contain a multi lap race.

Just remembered that they also have the AC 10km road race there once or twice a year.................

I will almost definitely be there Grifter, can't wait to do it. Did XTERRA UK in 2015 as my first off-road tri on a borrowed MTB and loved it!

Does anyone know if the course is being designed by Sam Gardner again?
