The 'B Word' just doesn't do it for me.
That said, from what I can remember of the area, I'm not sure Outlaw is exactly an iconic location either! But it's cheaper and one to tick-off apparently. If we don't support independent races, they will die-out and all we will be left with are WTC and local pool Sprints.

So, any accommodation recommendations? Anything within 30 mins is fine, as I've now discovered before/after an Iron dist. I guess that's a pretty big radius.

I normally stay at the Premier Inn Nottingham South.
Nice and close, restaurant/bar onsite. Does the job nicely.

Camping on site is great. Right across the road from Transition

That is what I did last year, it was perfect, there also were some lodges on the camp site, I am not sure if any of them would still be available but might be worth a try if camping is not for you.

Having seen the campsite at the Outlaw Half in Holkham last year, I would say bring some earplugs if you're a light sleeper. It was like Glastonbury down there!

I never entertained the camp site, the possibility of it being too busy/noisy ruled that out. It's proper 'wild camping' or nothing for me I generally like to stay away from race venues too, so I can escape the hubbub and find my calm place with a bunch of incense sticks a la Mark Allen.

I'm currently committed to trying to get a legacy Kona spot and this is probably one of the cheapest options as I'll only need about 2 nights B&B and a 2 hour drive. I've also got some unfinished business at Bolton after two really bad days there, not that I'll smash it or anything!
TBH, I do try and do a lot of smaller independent races, particularly 70.3's like Cotswolds, Bustinskin, TriHard, Grafman which tend to have a bit more character.

I can fully understand you being hooked on the Legacy thing, especially if you have the time & money - which tbh is what it needs! WTC aren't daft.
I only have 4 WTC Ironmans under my belt, plus Roth & the 226 so I'm not really close, or in the position to chase the events with a young family. Although Bolton & Tenby for the next 4 years would get me in the zone; then I would have to enter one every year to stay eligible

Yes, I've been cooling on the whole Kona thing recently because of all the training (and cash) but there's another part of me that thinks I've come this far. As you say it is time and money and without kids it makes both easier!
Bolton and Tenby are probably a bit cheaper due to them being a bit closer and no exchange rates, but I also fancy going back to Frankfurt next year (2018) to see if I can find the 11 minutes to get under 10 hours.

No posts here for 2 months?! What is going on.
Booked my accommodation on Monday, so another thing sorted. B&B in Cotgrave, so nice and close. I watched the Outlaw coverage on Youtube the other day, and it looks like a good event, and I have to admit, it got me a little excited.

Its a great event, only 19.5 weeks to go.
How's the training going?
