Hi

The SwimRun UK Scottish Triathlon Series is a new league featuring 4 triathlon races in iconic Scottish locations. Each of the 4 races will feature both Standard and Middle Distance. Some will have Sprints and some longer races. But only the Standard and Middle Distance races will count.

LOCH loMAN Triathlons – Sun 21st May Loch Lomond

ArranMan Triathlons – Sun 18th June Arran

MunroMan / River Spey Triathlons – Sun 9th July Cairngorm

NEW Iconic Venue TBA soon – Sun 17th September World Famous Location

The top 20 male and female triathletes in each race will receive points. Points from athletes top three results will be taken and the triathletes with the most points will be crowned the winner and receive our very special soon to be revealed prize.

But why stop with individual athletes performances?

Historically triathlon has been the ultimate individual endurance sport. The past couple of years have seen two major (and massively fun) additions to multi-sport here in Scotland: SwimRun and Mixed team Relay.

So, alongside the individual Race Series there will also be a Team Series.

Modelled in part on the hugely successful Grand Prix de Triathlon series in France, athletes will compete in teams of up to 5. Read David Mcnamee’s experience in France

Teams can be all male, all female or mixed. Teams can be made of athletes from the same triathlon club, different clubs or no club at all, just so long as 2 weeks before the first race we are informed of athletes team choices and names.

The 5 athletes in each team can race and gain points in either the Standard or Middle Distance events. For example at LOCH loMAN 4 team members can race in the Middle and whilst 1 races in the Standard, then at ArranMan 2 team members can race in the Middle and 3 in the Standard.

In each race the top 3 results from each team will be added to the team total, the bottom 2 results disregarded.

Unlike the French series these races are not on closed roads, so no drafting is allowed, thus team tactics involving domestiques etc are fruitless. It is still solo triathletes vs the clock.

Great idea, the domestic tri scene could do with some more structured competition. Always liked the Always Aim High series down in North Wales - they had a grand prize of a trip to the Caribbean the last couple of years which seemed to push quite a few folk! Bowhill Off road duathlon series sells out every year too.

Love the team aspect to. Will this be restricted to TriScotland registered clubs or can other folk enter teams too?
So where on Loch Ness is the new race going to be? Very Happy

Not restricted to TS. Open to all.

As a comedian and DJ my favourite weekend of the year Rockness at Dores.

What's to tell?

3.8km swim in East Sands bay with the seals

4 lap 112mile cycle round the East Neuk of Fife with awesome views across the Forth to Edinburgh and the Lothians

4 lap loop of the coastal path and town featuring sections of Chariots of Fire beach and along the 1st / 18th fairway path at the Old Course.

Sprint, standard, middle and iron all on the one day.

Alan,

MunroMan: tail end of the run goes from Loch Morlich back up to Cairngorm ski station? Sounds brutal. I'm keen.

Just belatedly seen this.

I'm sitting in St Andrews as I type so very pleased to see this new race... and also very pleased to see the other races up here in the cold North.

Depending upon job situation over the next couple of months, I'll probably be signing up for at least 3 of these - probably Middle distance Munroman, Loch Lomond and St A's (debating the full in St A's but not sure if I'm going to have training time next year).

Good job putting this together.

Smile

Alan,

Have you had the chance to nail down a run route for Munro Man yet?

Hi, I am working in Oz until end of April. We'll finalise it in May since by that time the snow will have gone.

Due to the low numbers for the Xtri (20) I am not inclined to send them over to Ben MacDui so it will most likely be all on Cairngorm Coire Cas, Coire Na Ciste sides.

Numbers looking good for the Middle & Standard distance. I'm really looking forward to it.

p.s. sadly I cancelled the St Andrews Iron - only 6 entries at end of January.

Over 100 for the other distances... but that will grow and grow come the summer.

Which reminds me, I still haven't entered yet...

Hopefully still places for Loch Loman, Cairngorm and St A's Halfs...

Waiting until payday before I can enter!
