"In the interest of the safety of all souls on-board Big Blue we have decided to postpone the expedition and sail directly to Natal in Brazil by the shortest route," Mr Hooper said.

Wonder why he's not returning to Europe? I'm sure there's a perfectly good logistical reason rather than a few weeks R&R on a Brazilian beach at someone else's expense.

Rolling Eyes

I'm sorry, but I just can't help thinking this guy is either an idiot, stupid, foolhardy, unprepared, naive, shyster or just a charlatan. Or maybe all of the above.

I'll bet someone a chocolate bar he'll never go back and try again.

He's spent 400K of someone else's money to get a boat ride to Brazil, of course he's still going to Brazil.

The only reason I could think of for continuing to Brazil and not turning back would be if the boat had to end up in Brazil for some reason, e.g. they were renting it from a Brazilian company.

Is there a link to his fundraising page?

I did have a brief look....but read his last post which suggests that he's carrying on...

You could buy a piece of history, granted living in the UK and having a boat moored in Brazil isn't perfect but it was part of an historic swim holiday.

Granted they had to abandon the trip because of damage to the boat itself but why worry about that?

Also, if I were an investor I'd be a bit upset to see part of my investment being sold without anything to show from that investment, apart from someone swimming 60 odd miles in 40 odd days.

Can't think who the group are that investigate people's inflated claims (usually from the armed forces) but it would be good to see them have a look into this trip/challenge/farce

not sure there is anything they can do...

from my understanding, he is either asking people to donate to his adventure or to 4 charities which he is representing..

if you give to his adventure then you are just helping him to fund the trip...i assume that there is no charity or company, but the donation is just a hand out...

Reading the last FB update from yesterday, it's clearly now just sinking into nasty recrimination and sh1t slinging.

Basically, this guy set out on a completely unrealistic adventure, completely unprepared and underestimating just how big an ambition it was. Unsurprisingly he's failed spectacularly and worse for him, in an age of immediate communication via social media where his failure and the subsequent fall-out plays out on a public stage.

As I've said before, I admire his balls to try something ridiculously adventurous (God knows we need people like this) but it takes an awful lot more than just balls to pull something so ambitious off - in that, he lacks big styleee.

[Sad, because one of my heroes in life is a guy called Maurice Wilson (Google him if anyone's interested)]

It's rather poignant that amongst all the sh1t-slinging on the FB page, one lone voice sticks out in the comments - his mum:

"Love you son chin up arrive in brazil safely"...

Interesting story about Maurice Wilson...thanks...

I don't intend to look at FB on this...i would be too tempted to join in...but if I had part funded the trip, I may have had something more to say...
