Anyone doing the Slateman this year?

Been on my to-do list for a while now but bit of a hike from Suffolk, luckily managed to tie it in with a family holiday in Wales this year so all entered and looking forward to it!

Not this year. I did it in 2015.

Expect the swim to be shortened, happens fairly regularly. The bike course is awesome but congested and issues with traffic are very possible. The run course is just properly brutal, very little flat running. For me its more like a Half Ironman in terms of fitness required rather than an Olympic distance with a longer bike.

A group of my friends and me are doing it as a training event for Celtman. I also bought an entry for my GF as a Christmas present - 'cos I'm nice like that! Cold water, hilly bike and brutal run - it's just what I need to prepare for CM.

Yep. I am in. Been tempted by that slated run Confused

Thinking of making a pilgrimage to Wales this year and doubling up with the Brutal.

Was very tempted by this but the date doesn't work for me this year. Am doing the Snowman instead, if it's as good as i'm hoping I may well do Slate/Sandman in the future

Sandman is a fantastic race. Done it many times! I've not been able to do it due to clashing dates the past few years though! Gutted!

This has come round pretty damn quick! Off for our 7 hour drive to Wales in the morning and will register before heading to the camp we are staying at.

Really looking forward to it now Smile

Can't remember when I did it, but it's a great race.

Swim is silly cold, be prepared (we were only allowed to enter water 30s before horn, kind of silly but hey).

Bike we had headwind all the way round. Circular headwind. Never knew it existed. Careful at first left bend after cresting first long climb, it's getting sharper and sharper, and is fast downhill (guy in front of me almost went over the railing trying to brake). After that it's bombs away and blast it.

Run is only 11k, but... I thought it was mainly up the slate mine side, along, down, along the lake and finish. As it turns out it's up the slate mine side, then up/down/up/down criss-crossing all the way out and back. Felt more like a HM.

Superb organisation though.

Great race, done it 3 times.

Pretty much as described above. Toe covers and arm warmers probably sensible. Don't expect to feel your feet until about 1k into the run.
