Have you been stalking my personal details? To be fair, I only managed a paltry 10:09 when I did my first, also aged 34. Wind & rain mind, so worth a 9:59 Rolling Eyes Very Happy

Just searched the forum for Jorgan and 44s. Wasnt hard to find one where your age was referenced ... it's been a frequent topic of conversation, even with me being a relative latecomer to TT Laughing

I'm on a taper and it feels weird! So much free time. I know it's good for me but it feels odd not to be working out as much.

To say I'm nervous is an understatement. First go at this distance.

I can echo this. Only 7hrs of training last week, and a measly 3.5hrs before the big one on Sunday. Definitely feels weird.

I'm very much up and down on the nerves front. Trying to channel my learnings from the Chimp Paradox and tell myself bad things may well happen, but if they do I will just have to deal with them at the time, and stressing about them now achieves nothing.

Good luck in Copenhagen Stenard, I hope it goes well for you.

Thanks Jorgan. Pretty much what I have planned to be honest. I'm not sure it can really get much better.

Race review is now on my blog. It's huge though. Ended up having about 4 hours in the lounge at the airport, so I kind of went to town. Plus there was the flight as well. I don't think it would be particularly interesting in plain text copied here (it probably isn't anyway!), so at least on wordpress you get some pictures to distract you!

Great read, well done.
Just out of interest, was this your first IM? How many HIM have you done? How long have you been doing triís and what is your background - cycling or running?

Thanks. Yep, first full distance. In terms of halves, I did the Cotswold Classic in '14, Weymouth 70.3 in '16, Cotswold 113 and Classic in '17 and Mallorca 70.3 earlier this year.

No real endurance background. I actually played team sports, specifically American football, for the previous 10 years or more. Made the Student GB squad whilst at Uni (toured San Fran), and played for some of the top teams domestically. So I was predominantly about speed.

I just got quite a lot of injuries and bike and run started from there. Initially I broke my leg, so I started cycling as part of rehab before I could run. And then joined a running group to get back to fitness after that. After the injury that made me decide to give that sport up, a friend suggested I do a triathlon he was doing with some work mates, and that made me swim for the first time really since school. That was the end of 2013.

I'd never done a running race before Bath half marathon in 2014. So I'm not really a runner or a cyclist, but I guess from the team sports I'd always been running, just not in a competitive sense.

Come to think of it, I outlined all of this in the very first post I ever did! Wink
