|
|
Well my 3rd attempt to do an Ironman looks destined to end in failure again. After having some issues with my left knee around Christmas that I've had 2 x ACL reconstructions on I get the results tomorrow with the surgeon after having an MRI last week.
Left knee's been locking, giving way and acting bloody stupid with strange symptoms so with having 2 ops on it already had to get it checked out. Luckily I'm on the halves Bupa policy so it's private from now on but seriously fed up. First week of the year and had to stop training and if it is the ACL that's this year written off. I'll go stir crazy not being able to do any event at all.
Find out tomorrow (Tuesday), hoping it's maybe just needs a clean up or there's some floating bone, or a cartilage issue rather then a full ACL repair for a 3rd time. (4th in total had right knee done too).

That's rough sorry to hear it.
Would you be able to cycle this year? Build that up and you can walk an ironman if needs be.

Well the MRI scans suggest it's not my ACL, he can't really say what it is, maybe just needs a clean up so having an arthroscopy in 2 weeks and a clean up, maybe cartilage needs cleaning up he said.
So I'm now thinking defer UK Ironman 17th July, swap to a half or swap for the Wales Ironman to give me a few months extra.
I'll lose maybe 2/3 weeks of training and I've already lost 4 with this injury and can see the months flying by and Ironman UK getting closer, just under 6 months to Ironman UK now.
On the plus side it looks like it's not my ACL but the trainings took a hit with all this.

Been talking to the other half and we think maybe drop to a half this year and build up to a full next year. There's 5 months to the Bolton full and I've lost most my fitness in the past month and will lose another 2/3 weeks training due to the op in 2 weeks.
Or do I swap to Wales however that only gives me just under 2 months extra training and can you really get fit for the harder Wales Ironman in just over 6 months?
Any advice is appreciated.

"He doesn't know what it is" wouldn't fill me with confidence in embarking on a six month training programme.
Six months is enough to prep for Wales, but I'd be looking for approval from the surgeon/physio or whoever to start - otherwise you don't know if you're making it worse.

Hi All,
had the op yesterday, I had floating bone in my knee and he had to repair some cartilage. 2/3 weeks rest then I'm basically starting from scratch fitness and training wise and have to take it slow. I think the UK ironman is too close now, quite upset about it.
So now looking to maybe do a half later in the year, Germany, Weymouth, Dublin etc. I'd love to do Tenby but maybe too hard and it's in September.

Take your time waddy.
seen far too many go too hard too early and end up in a worse place than were they started.
IM will be around for a long time.
IMUK is my ultimate goal, but ill only do it when i can " Race " it.

In October Challenge Peguera 70.3 is only 185 Euros until next week, flights are about £70 return.
Loads of time to train, looks like a stunning course, pretty cheap for an overseas race. If you aren't fit enough it's just a nice weekend away.
