Not bad at all.
Another pretty poor hill climb today in terms of watts, but somehow managed fastest 40-44 vet male (a 45-49 vet male beat me and of course a 40-45 vet female, so 3rd vet overall) so 60 quid one, and my race year goes with 25quid entry fees, 60quid winnings, and this year, no kit or anything bought given how little I've done, so with that sort of return on investment, I'm considering a new career!

Nice work Jim
I remember when I won my first race in Oz, I think way back then it was $10 for a win. I do remember I spent more than I won on a late breakfast because I was famished after the race, so no ROI for me

£60 is a good win!
Always amuses when you pay £8.50 to enter, win £10 and spend your 'profit' on the donations for post race cake...

Hill Climbing has surprisingly good prize lists compared with other cycling events, not sure why. Unfortunately though, this time all my winnings, and some of Maryka's went on buying my sisters, and mum and their families lunch.

Overheads come with being a pro mate, perhaps you could claim the tax?

So two races into my TT season and results as follows:
1 x DNS, proper nasty dose of illness
1 x Event cancelled due to about a foot of snow
Next up a 22 miler next weekend...it must get better surely....

Good luck this weekend TRO.
I've also got a hilly 21M spoco but ATM there's a pretty good chance of a DNS, I had a nasty dose of something all last week, was in bed for nearly 5 days and have really struggled to get over it.
Been feeling generally better this week but still pretty tired, sleeping a lot and still spluttering. Tried 20 minutes on the wattbike last night and even 200W felt like hard work.
So if I race it will be on the winter bike complete with rusty chain and mudguards motivated only by cake at the end.
Annoyingly about 2 weeks ago I was looking forward to the race and for the time of the year hadn't been going too badly.
How long did it take you to recover? VLM is looming and I need to get a few long runs in yet.

Don't wish to be the bearer of bad tidings:
- week 1: really ill, not even thinking about training
- week 2: getting better but in no shape to train
- week 3: did some light work, but trying anything outside Z1 led to heaving a lung up
- week 4: felt ok in 'normal life' mode and started some proper training but really hard going, lethargic, sacked sessions, HR very high for effort levels. Probably should have backed off this week as well in hindsight.
- week 5: started to hit some sessions and work hard again but not performing well, 15-20 watts down on the bike - not really sure how much was lost fitness and how much still recovering from the illness
- week 6: got the zing back at last.

I'm currently in week 3 and just ahead of you I think, been doing some training but RPE & HR have been up on what I'd expect. I did manage some 2k reps today but was wheezing at the end.
I'm hoping the huge amounts of sleep and vitamins etc. have shortened it a bit but I'd say i'm still barely 80% during racing and training, maybe a bit higher.
