Message from our Chairman

Happy New Year to everyone at TVT, I hope you all enjoyed a good Christmas and are looking forward to a successful racing season in 2005.  At this time of year the club starts afresh with membership, the committee and plans for the season, so please get involved and get the most that TVT and triathlon can offer you. To kick things off, here are some ways to get started:

* Membership
Is due now, so please sign up and get your forms returned to Penny.  This ensures you get the newsletter, e-mails, and have the right to vote at the AGM

* AGM
Is coming up Sunday 27th February at Zizzi's (6:00 p.m. for a 6:30 start) with a meal available afterwards to catch up and talk about your plans for 2005.  This is a chance to voice your views on the way the club is run, understand how the club is funded, and where your membership money gets spent.

It is your opportunity to get involved with the committee (committee posts are described elsewhere).  We are always short of people to fill the posts and have some people doubling up, so new people are always welcome.  The more we can spread the load, the less an individual has to do.  You do not have to have years of experience in triathlon to be on the committee!

This is your chance to put forward proposals to change the club.  Please put these to the committee now, so they can be printed into the meeting agenda.  If we do not have any proposals then we cannot vote to change anything! Please turn up and have your say.  With around 150 members, please do not let future decisions be made by only 10% of the membership (and most of those are the committee!).

* Concorde
Is on 14th August 2005, so please mark the date in your diaries now.  Stuart and his team are already working on the planning for the event and the club needs your support to continue running an event that is highly rated amongst "local" triathletes and is the single largest source of income to TVT.  It fills our coffers and subsidises the swim sessions that don't break even (and you would be surprised how many there are).  It is also our single biggest publicity generator amongst local athletes who are starting out in triathlon and didn't know that a major club was right on their doorstep!

* TVT is 21 years old!
TVT is probably the oldest triathlon club in the country and celebrates 21 years in 2005.  We want your ideas as to how to celebrate the event, so please let us know.  We can hold a social event, a sporting and social event (evening race and BBQ?).  If you have some good ideas tell us!

* Races
Are already filling up so plan your calendar with the likes of 220 magazine and the Triathletes Homepage website.  The amalgamation of the South East and Southern Regions means a larger area for championship and league races, so look out for the chosen events soon and get entered.

Make this the year you step up a challenge, and don't forget there are a multitude of multi sport races to have a go at including off road events. Look out for team events as well, including the National Relays in August, Kieran Williams is already recruiting and everyone is welcome to race in a team. Anyone for Adventure racing this year?

If you want to qualify for the World Championships, check out the recently published list of qualifying races.  These will fill up quickly so enter now to avoid disappointment!

So, I wish everyone a great racing year, get your membership paid up, come to the AGM and get training.
